Casting a Dark Democracy

This installation features a 5-metre-high figure based on the infamous image of an Abu Ghraib prisoner tortured by US soldiers; it is surrounded by sand, and casts a shadow of glossy black oil, capturing its own reflection.  Shaw created this work during his residency at the Kenneth Armitage Foundation in London.
